Vocational training

After completing school, or after a successful operation, youngsters are considered for vocational training. Since 1997 CBR Effata has a Vocational Training Unit, assisting youngsters with a disability to better integrate in the community by learning vocational skills as carpentry, tailoring etc. In 2016 a total of 49 young people with disabilities received practical vocational training in the community.

The vocational skills are acquired through apprenticeships with local carpenters, tailors, shoemakers, hairdressers and bicycle repairers. The youngsters stay most of the time for a period of 1 or 2 years, after which they receive a loan to start on their own. This enables them to become independent and earn their own income.

Staff of CBR Effata encourages people with disabilities to go to school. When necessary they are supported with devices like crutches, wheelchairs or Braille material so that they can attend mainstream education as much as possible.
