In 1999 CBR Effata started primary education for deaf children; the policy was changed in 2015. Instead of “special education”, “inclusive education” is now practised, which means that children with and without deafness are learning together in the same class.
More than 200 children, 70 of them deaf, receive daily lessons in sign language.
To promote integration with the community, the children are living with families in the village.
The school employs 5 teachers who are deaf.
